GEORGETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC, Oct. 29, 2026) – Nobody was hurt, but I-196 near the Ottawa/Kent county line had to be closed for a brief time during the overnight hours on Thursday morning due to a crash.
First responders were dispatched to eastbound I-196 near the 66 mile marker, between the 8th and Kenowa avenue bridges, around 12:30 AM. That was where a sedan, which had struck a deer, causing it to be disabled, was partially in the roadway. A SUV came up on the scene and clipped the automobile, leading to the entire eastbound lanes being blocked.
The drivers involved – a 26-year-old Zeeland woman and a 20-year-old Wyoming man – escaped injury. Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies secured the scene while tow trucks took the disabled vehicles away and debris was cleared.
The incident remains under investigation.
