Allen Dale Disselkoen, 84, of Zeeland went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at his home. Al was born December 1, 1941, in Douglas County, South Dakota to Simon and Rena (Feenstra) Disselkoen. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Sylvan (Donna) Disselkoen, Simon Disselkoen Jr., and sister Joyce Dykstra.
Al is survived by his wife Sally (Timmer), children Al (Susie) Disselkoen, Jolene (Tom) Boeve, Melissa (Chip) Dykema, and Mark (Nicole) Disselkoen, 14 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, brothers Mel (Carol) Disselkoen, Warren (Linda) Disselkoen, brother-in-law Jay Dykstra, sister-in-law Maxine Timmer, and brother-in-law Duane (Mary) Timmer.
Al attended Holland Christian High School and several years later started off on his life-long career working as a carpenter/builder. He married Sally Timmer on November 16, 1963. Soon after, he started building the first of three homes for his family in Zeeland. Al later expanded his career working as an independent builder in the Zeeland/Holland area.
The Disselkoen family are long-time members of First Baptist Church of Zeeland. Over the years Al combined his faith in Jesus with his building skills on many mission trips around the USA and the world. Al and Sally, often accompanied by their children, traveled to Africa, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Georgia, Arizona, and New Mexico, in addition to various other locations. The trips spanned a couple weeks to six months supporting the missions of Kenya Hope, Wycliffe Bible Translators, and their church.
Often Al could be found watching his grandchildren participating in their numerous activities, no matter how far he had to travel! Family meant everything to Al, and he spent as much time as possible with them. If not with family, you could find Al at one of the local coffee shops, chatting with his dedicated group of friends or anyone who walked in the door. He had a genuine smile that was ALWAYS brightening his face.
Faith, family, and friends were important to Al and although we are saddened by our loss, together we hope for heaven.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm, Friday, October 30, at First Baptist Church of Zeeland, 246 West Main Ave., Zeeland MI. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 31, at First Baptist Church. Interment will be in Zeeland Cemetery.
