Rev. Dr. Albert E. Lacy, age 94, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at his home in Holland.
A.E. Lacy was born in Corydon, Kentucky, in 1932. He graduated from Georgetown College and Southern Baptist Seminary. A.E. married his beloved Nancy Bergman in 1955, who passed away in 2018.
A.E. and Nancy lived in Kalamazoo for 29 years, where he served as Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church from 1980-1997. He was a trustee of Kalamazoo College, and founding member and President of Housing Resources, an organization that located housing for the poor.
A.E. is survived by his children, Stephen (Virginia) Lacy of Evanston, IL, Laura (Bill) Benson of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Will Lacy, Sarah Lacy, Daniel (Alex) Vriesman, Ashley (Max) Rectenwald, brother-in-law, Weston (Rose) Bergman of Vidalia, GA, and three great-grandchildren.
He often said, “The most important things in life are a person’s spiritual life and the love of their family,” of which he spent time with both.
A memorial service is planned for 11:00am on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Third Reformed Church, 111 W 13th St., Holland. Rev. Dr. Ryan Boes and Rev. James Neevel will officiate. Burial will be in Frankfort Cemetery in Frankfort, Kentucky. Contributions in A.E.’s memory may be made to Kids’ Food Basket (kidsfoodbasket.org). Arrangements are by Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, Holland.
