Jacqueline A. Hallett, age 85 of Holland, passed away September 21, 2026.
Born in Holland, Michigan and a life-long resident of the city, Jacqueline grew up in Montello Park, attended local public schools and graduated from Holland High. She married her high school sweetheart Carl Jay Hallett. They have been married for sixty-six (66) years. As a child, Jackie attended the 1st Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the 1st Presbyterian Church. While raising their children, Carl and Jacqueline attended their neighborhood Christ Memorial Reformed Church and, most recently, attended services at Central Wesleyan Church.
Jacqueline made good decisions in a timely manner. She knew what she wanted to experience in her life and pursued her priorities. She wanted a happy marriage, children and a happy home. Carl and Jackie had three sons and a daughter, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Like her maternal grandmother Blanche Shaffer, Jackie had a green thumb. She loved flowers and gardening. Their home was surrounded by a manicured lawn and vibrant flower beds. During the years they had an above-ground pool at their home on Graafschap Road, Jackie and Carl together kept the pool in pristine condition. Their pool was where their children and their kids’ friends hung out. Pets – the Hallets almost always had a dog and several cats. After the children had grown, Carl and Jackie, along with friends, loyally supported the Hope College women’s basketball team. In addition to attending the local games, they caravaned to distant cities and states to cheer for their team. During her retirement years, Jackie served three terms on the Centennial Farms Homeowners Association Board of Directors.
Carl and Jackie enjoyed country music and took numerous trips to Nashville for concerts headlining major artists like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Glen Campbell. Like her grandmother Shaffer, Jackie also created oil paintings of a diverse range of subjects – landscapes, floral arrangements, still life. Jackie’s mother Sylvia lived to a hundred and two years of age; Sylvia remained both physically and mentally healthy. The efforts and support of Carl and Jackie enabled Jackie’s mother to remain in her home and live independently. Every Saturday, Jackie would have coffee with her mother. Over the years, Suellen and later granddaughter Tayler joined the weekly get together. Jacqueline trained to be a secretary and, for thirty-six years, worked in the offices for trucking firms in both Holland and Grand Rapids. She also clerked for both S.S. Kresge and J.C. Penny.
Predeceased by her parents Leon Alfred and Sylvia Lou (Shaffer) Kraai, Jacqueline is survived by her husband Carl Jay Hallett, their sons – Scott, Bill, and Jim Hallett; their daughter Suellen (Hallett) Coffee; grandchildren Elliott Hallett; Nicholas Hallett; Jennifer (Hallett-Hook) Weaver; Bill Hallett-Hook; Haley Hallett-Hook; Tayler Reaume; Leon Reaume; Luke Coffee; and great-grandchildren Juniper Hallett-Hook, Haden Reaume; Oliver Reaume; Daxton Weaver; and Bryson Weaver. Jackie is also survived by her brothers Dale Kraai and Leon Kraai Jr., nephews Joe Jordon, Ben Jordon, Matthew Kraai and niece Molly (Jordon) Buczynski.
A visitation will take place on Sunday, September 27 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Dykstra Funeral Home – Mulder Chapel, 188 W 32nd Street, Holland. A funeral service will take place on Monday, September 28 at 1:00pm also at Dykstra Funeral Home – Mulder Chapel. Burial will take place as Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
