SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 9, 2026) – As deer hunting season in Michigan begins for the bow and arrow enthusiasts next month, individual hunters won’t be the only ones looking to harvest the whitetail population this fall.
During Wednesday’s workshop session, the Saugatuck City Council will go over a proposed deer cull at Oval Beach. Berg’s Animal and Bug Control, an experienced municipal and institutional deer population reduction firm, is being retained at a cost of $495 per animal to bring down those numbers there. The city has budgeted $30,000 for deer management, which officials say should account for as many as 60 deer in this effort.
The matter should be put forward for a formal vote during this coming Monday’s business meeting.
