GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 2, 2026) – As one roundabout north of Holland nears completion, the third of three scheduled construction projects involving this type of traffic control in Ottawa County is underway.
Work began last Monday on a roundabout at the junction of 48th Avenue and Baldwin Street, between Hudsonville and Allendale. This project should run through mid-September, and is tied into ongoing water main replacement on 48th Avenue that began at the end of March. Later this month, roundabouts on 120th Avenue at Port Sheldon Street in Olive Township, as well as on 144th Avenue at Lincoln Street southeast of Grand Haven, should be completed.
Alex Doty with the Ottawa County Road Commission explained what goes into deciding where a roundabout should be placed.
Doty adds that while roundabouts may feel unfamiliar to some drivers, they are designed to be simple, efficient, and safer than traditional signalized or stop-controlled intersections.
