OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jul. 28, 2026) – The Ottawa County Board wants to put its money where its mouth is.
During Tuesday evening’s monthly business meeting, Commissioners will be asked to approve two state Department of Agriculture and Rural Development grants, totaling nearly $377,000 for establishing conservation easements on 122 total acres of farmland in Blendon and Chester townships. The money would be used to maintain the two properties as agricultural in nature for perpetuity.
It’s part of the county’s ongoing effort to preserve farmland, with over 700 acres saved thus far over the past decade through the Agricultural Preservation Board’s Purchase of Developmental Rights Program, a vital priority, according to first term Republican Commissioner John Teeples of Jenison.
