PORT-AU-PRINCE, July 27 (Reuters) – Haiti’s electoral council on Monday set new dates for the country’s presidential elections, long-delayed due to deteriorating insecurity amid a conflict with powerful armed gangs, scheduling a first round vote by the end of the year.
The first round of Haiti’s general and presidential elections should take place on December 13, Haiti’s CEP electoral council said in a statement, and a second round vote combined with local elections has been set for February 21.
The publication of the final results for the presidential and legislative votes is due March 7, it said.
