ROBINSON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jul. 26, 2026) – A violent weekend along the Lakeshore continued during the overnight hours on Sunday with a report of shots being fired in the Bass River Recreational Area between Allendale and Grand Haven.
When Ottawa County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived in the vicinity of 104th Avenue and Bass River Road around 2:30 AM, what was described as a “large” party of both adults and youths, which had gathered there, already dispersed. Apparently, an argument broke out, and a single shooter fired at a group of unarmed persons, causing several wounds, and sparking the fleeing of the scene by an undisclosed number of persons.
One youth was found near M-231 and Lincoln Avenue, while a vehicle which had three wounded persons inside had stopped on Mercury Drive near 112th Avenue. All of those involved were taken to unnamed “area hospitals” for treatment, while another medical facility reported receiving another victim of this incident.
Those who had stayed at the party scene were able to give detectives suspect and vehicle information, and that vehicle, along with three persons inside, was stopped by Allegan County Sheriff’s Deputies at an undisclosed location. Those three persons were transported to the Ottawa County Jail.
As of dawn on Sunday morning, four persons were listed in stable condition, and one person was in critical condition, all with was was described as “non-fatal” wounds. There were no outstanding suspects, and no further concerns for public safety in this matter. The incident remains under investigation.
On Friday, a family of eight was found dead in a home near Grand Haven, with some of the victims sustaining gunshot wounds, as well as a woman’s body found in the basement of a home west of Allegan, with one person in custody in connection with the matter. Those cases also remain under investigation.
