KALAMAZOO, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jun. 5, 2026) – Law enforcement entities say preparing for emergencies is an exercise for the entire family, including those who walk on paws instead of feet.
June is National Pet Preparedness Month, and creating a preparedness kit for the dog, cat, or other moving animal is encouraged to ensure complete readiness during an emergency or disaster, according to Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller.
Besides having supplies on hand, residents are asked to identify nearby pet-friendly shelters, hotels, or boarding facilities in advance, and to have identifying tags and microchips in place should their animal become separated from them.
