SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 26, 2026) – The repurposing of downtown property with Kalamazoo Lake frontage highlights Monday night’s Saugatuck City Council meeting.
The governing panel is being asked to approve a planned unit development ordinance, with an associated conceptual development plan, for the site at 640 Water Street. The city’s planning and historic district commissioners have signed off on the proposal by AMK Holdings to tear down the former Big Lake Outfitters building and construct a mixed-use, two-floor structure, with commercial space on the ground floor, and residential units designed for short-term rental use upstairs. In addition, an easement request to preserve public access to Kalamazoo Lake across this property is included in this proposal.
The Saugatuck City Council’s 6:30 PM business session is in the second-floor meeting room of Saugatuck City Hall (102 Butler St.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
