HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 24, 2026) – While many people see this weekend only as the start of the summer vacation season along the Lakeshore, across the state, and around the country, the true purpose of setting aside the fourth Monday in May for a national holiday will be acknowledged by many others.
The largest such event in this area is in Holland, as a 9:30 AM parade runs from 8th Street and Central Avenue downtown to the Pilgrim Home Cemetery, where an 11 AM observance program is slated, with Richard “Doc” Jakubczak with the Holland Area Veteran’s Council is the featured speaker.
Mike Martin of the HAVC is organizing all of the activities.
That rededication is slated for 1 PM at the park (1269 Ottawa Beach Rd.), followed by a lunch at the Holland VFW Post #2144 (175 W. 8th St.).
In addition, the Holland Museum will be holding special hours from 12 Noon to 4 PM on Monday, according to Curator of Learning and Community Engagement Loren Stevens.
Meanwhile, Zeeland’s Memorial Day Parade kicks off at 9 AM downtown, according to Mayor Rick Van Dorp.
That ceremony will be at Second Reformed Church.
Other parades are slated for Grand Haven, Saugatuck, Jenison and Grandville.
