ALLENDALE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 21, 2026) – For the second time in less than 12 hours, an ambulance on an emergency run has been involved in a crash along the Lakeshore.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Cassie Tolman, a LIFE ambulance was “running code,” meaning that it had its warning lights and sirens activitated, on westbound Lake Michigan Drive (M-45) shortly before 5 AM on Thursday. As it came to 48th Avenue near the Grand Valley State University campus, it slowed in its approach, as the traffic signal was red for the state trunk highway.
While going through the junction, the ambulance was struck by a northbound SUV which was looking to proceed through on a green light, driven by a 45-year-old Hudsonville man, apparently ignoring the cautions put forth by the emergency vehicle. Unlike an earlier incident near Wayland, in which a dozing pickup truck driver rammed into an ambulance on US-131, causing it to flip over and injuring three persons inside, there were no injuries reported in this collision, which remains under investigation.
