HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 16, 2026) – It took five days, but a No Body Contract advisory in the Spring Lake area has been lifted.
A week of testing the waters of Lloyds Bayou Creek by Ottawa County Department of Public Health staffers led to the Friday announcement that bacterial levels there had come back down below the maximum safe standards for human and animal contact. Falling concrete from a weather-related collapse of the North Bank Trail last weekend caused a break in a sanitary sewer line, leading to about 50,000 gallons of untreated sewage flowing into those waters before the break was capped.
This was the third such advisory issued by the department in less than four months, following cautions in mid February and late March for separate sewage discharges into Ottawa Creek in the Allendale area.
