HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 26, 2026) – A 42-year-old Holland man was seriously injured following a single-vehicle crash east of Holland on Saturday night.
First responders were dispatched to I-196 near the 53 mile marker, around the 96th Avenue overpass, shortly after 8 PM. That was where a westbound vehicle lost control and veered left into the median. It then struck an embankment, rolled over several times, veered back to the right across the roadway, and finally came to rest in a ditch.
The unnamed single motorist had to be extracted from his vehicle by rescuers, and was taken via an AMR ambulance to an undisclosed “area hospital” for treatment. Westbound traffic was diverted off of the freeway at the Byron Road exit for about 90 minutes as a result.
No reason for what led the vehicle to lose control was immediately revealed as the matter remains under investigation.
