Jose Miguel (Mike) Castaneda, 84, of Laketown Township, died April 18th., 2026
He was born in La Feria, Texas, in 1942 to his parents, Jose and Eulalia Garza Castaneda. Mike, being the youngest of three children. Mike attended Catholic school and then Holland public schools. Mike met the love of his life Thelma Garcia, and they were married for almost 66 years. Together they created a beautiful family of three boys and a girl.
Mike went to work and held various jobs. but worked as a millwright maintenance worker for 42 years, retiring in 2005.
Mike and Thelma enjoyed traveling around the world and took their kids on vacation every year when they were little. Mike also enjoyed spending his time tinkering on projects in his barn. Mike also enjoyed going deer hunting every year with his brothers-in-law and the children when they were of age.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents Jose and Eulalia Castaneda, brother Phillip, and his wife Margie Castaneda, his daughter Cynthia Marie DeVries, and mother-in-law Guadelupe Garcia Fierro. Brothers-in-law Joseph Fierro, Joe Puente, Luis (Sonny), and his wife Sandy Garcia of Houston, Texas; George Garcia of Holland; Edward Garcia of Holland; and sister-in-law Grace Leon of Chicago. Norma Perez of Corpus Christi, Texas. And many other special friends and relatives.
Mike is survived by his wife; Thelma, almost 66 years old; his sister Lela (Castaneda) Puente and her family, his sisters-in-law Nilda Garcia and Francis Garcia and their children, brothers-in-law Arturo and his wife Piedad and their children are from California. Robert Garcia and his children.
Mike is also survived by his children J. Mike Jr. and companion Deanna of Maine, Luis and his wife Barbara of Rockford, Ric, and his partner Richard of California. Grandchildren Luis D. J. and Elijah Castaneda, Tyler and Shane Devries, Brittney and her husband Will Wester, and their Children, Kaitlin Castaneda of New Jersey, Hannah Pelletier, Holly Richard, and Autumn Sjostrom all of Maine and many other close friends and relatives from around the country.
The family would like to thank the Hospice of Holland team for all their support.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, April 28th., 2026, at: St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, located at 171 W 13th St, Holland, MI 49423
Visitation at the church will start at 12:35pm.
The Funeral Mass will start at 1:30pm.
A graveside services will be held at 3:00pm at Pilgrim Home Cemetery, Holland, Michigan.
