OLIVE TWP. (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 18, 2026) – An 18-year-old Belmont man has been arraigned on charges stemming from an apparent hit-and-run injury crash in Jenison at the beginning of this month.
On Saturday, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office announced that Mason Richard was formally accused in 58th District Court of second-degree fleeing and eluding, as well as operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious injury. He was not listed as being held in the Ottawa County Jail, but it was not immediately disclosed what his bond conditions were, and how he had met them.
The charges come from an April 1st incident at the intersection of Baldwin Street and Cottonwood Drive. That was where an eastbound vehicle drove through a red traffic signal, shortly after 9 PM, and slammed into a westbound vehicle that had been stopped and waiting for the light to change. An 18-year-old Hudsonville woman driving that second vehicle was taken to an unnamed medical facility for treatment of was initially reported as minor injuries, while Richard apparently drove off unhurt. He was reportedly arrested shortly thereafter.
The incident remains under investigation.
