ALLEGAN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 10, 2026) – There will be at least one ballot proposal for Allegan County voters to decide on in the August 4th Primary Election.
On Thursday, county commissioners unanimously approved placing a four-year renewal request for funding senior services at the current annual levy of .4823 mills. This is down from the previous assessment due to state Headlee reduction requirements, but as District 1 Commissioner Craig Van Beek of Dorr explained, asking to restore this tax to one mill even is not necessary, even though there are reports that one in five county residents are 65 years of age or older, and that ratio would be one in four by 2030.
Meanwhile, a ballot request for a seven-year renewal of the county’s Conservation District levy at the current rate of just under a tenth of a mill was tabled until the next board meeting in two weeks, as commissioners want more information from the Conservation District regarding usage of further millage dollars. There is a May 12 deadline for entities to place proposals on the August 4th Primary Election ballot.
