ROBINSON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 7, 2026) – An annual aspect of spring along the Lakeshore is flooding along the Grand River.
On Monday, Ottawa County Emergency Management Director Lou Hunt issued a cautionary statement for those living in low areas along that major tributary. The river, which was expected to reach minor flood stage on Monday afternoon, should get to a moderate stage around 12 Noon on Tuesday, and crest at 15 feet, three inches during the overnight hours on Wednesday morning. Waters are not expected to recede below flood stage until Sunday.
A major flooding area is the Van Lopik neighborhood, east of the M-231 bridge in Robinson Township, with one to two feet of water expected over it. County Local Emergency Planning Coordinator Derek Schroeder has some tips for those in the affected area.
Hunt added that residents should expect moving water with a current in low-lying and flood-prone areas, and expect flooding over roads, which would hinder emergency response to the area if it is needed.
