GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 31, 2026) – The sentencing of a 59-year-old Zeeland Township man in the death of his girlfriend following a domestic violence incident brings to light the issue of this societal problem.
Judge Karen Miedema, at 20th Circuit Court on Monday, ordered Randall Grinwis to serve between 32 and a half and 90 years in prison after a conviction last month on second-degree murder charges. Prosecutors say that he used his forearm to suffocate Donna Hyma at their home on New Year’s Day of 2024, and then fled with over $1,800 to Las Vegas, where he spent the ill-gotten gains at the casinos before turning himself in to authorities and allegedly confessing to his crimes.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and India Ambrose, Advancement Manager for Resilience: Advocates for Ending Violence, says that her Holland Township-based non-profit not only works with victims and their families after such incidents, but also on initiatives to prevent these issues from occurring.
Resilience has its Denim and Desserts annual fundraiser set for April 16th at Macatawa Legends.
