HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 21, 2026) – A long-time leader in the Holland community has passed away.
Celestino “Tino” Reyes Sr. died at his home on Wednesday at the age of 89. A founding member of Latin Americans United for Progress in 1964, serving as its first president, he helped shape the organization into a leading voice for the Latino community along the Lakeshore, along with his wife Lupita, the long-time hostess of “Alegria Latina,” the Spanish-speaking radio program now heard on WYVN-FM.
An employee at the Heinz pickle plant in Holland, as well as the company’s facilities in Zeeland and Borculo, Mr. Reyes helped establish the Villa Aurora program to help those experiencing homelessness.
Visitation for Mr. Reyes will be on Wednesday, March 25th, from 5-8 PM, at the Dykstra Funeral Home (188 W. 32nd St.), with an 11 AM funeral mass the following day at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church (171 W. 13th St.). Donations to the general fund of LAUP, as well as toward Community Action House, are requested in lieu of flowers.
