HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 19, 2026) – Another Lakeshore municipality takes on the issue of handling farm life on your residential property.
During the Holland Township Board’s biweekly meeting on Thursday evening, Trustees will consider on first reading a zoning ordinance amendment that would allow the keeping of farm animals, chickens and bees in areas zoned residential. Among the regulations is a maximum of five animals or chickens on properties of at least five acres, as well as conditions for keeping honey bees.
Those guidelines are close to what Don Lam and members of the Holland Area Beekeepers Association proposed when the City of Holland approved a similar ordinance about a decade ago.
This proposed ordinance amendment must still be approved through a procedural second reading in two weeks time before it can be enacted.
The Holland Charter Township Board holds its 7 PM meeting in the township’s Fire Station #1 (131 Riley St.). An online link to the agenda is here.
