GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 28, 2026) – A 59-year-old Zeeland area man could face life in prison following a conviction of killing his girlfriend on New Year’s Day of 2024.
A 20th Circuit Court Jury needed less than two hours on Friday before coming back with guilty verdicts of second-degree murder and larceny counts against Randall Grinwis, who was accused of slaying Donna Hyma, and taking between a thousand and 20 thousand dollars. Her body was discovered in their shared manufactured home in the Ottogan Mobile Home Estates complex off of Ottogan Street east of 96th Avenue.
While an initial cause of death by the Ottawa County Medical Examiner’s Office was declared to be of natural causes, a subsequent autopsy disclosed that the victim had been suffocated. Grinwis was eventually captured in Las Vegas after spending the money he had taken in the crime, and reportedly confessed to his involvement in the incident.
The trial lasted for three days, and Circuit Court Judge Karen Miedema will rule on a fourth-degree habitual offender charge against Grinwis on March 23rd, a week before she hands down a sentence on the felony counts he was found guilty of.
