Ellalene Rose Kampen went to be with her Lord and Savior, Monday December 14, 2020.
Ellie was born on October 8, 1930 to Nicholas and Henrietta (Boeve) Dykhuis. She grew up on the family farm and loved animals, especially horses. Her love of horses started as a toddler when her parents would put her on one of the plow horses while working in the fields. She went on to become a 4-H horse leader for many years. She married the love of her life, Edward Kampen in 1953. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before his death in 2014. Family was always important and one of her greatest joys. Together they raised 5 girls who all learned to ride horses and kept her busy with extra curricular activities. They could often be found attending horse shows, sporting events, and school activities. The cycle started again when grandkids came along and became active as well. Ellie often had the whole family for the holidays and many Sunday dinners because of her good cooking.
Ellie was preceded in death by her husband Ed; daughter, Karen Kampen Beyer in 2012; her three brothers, Clyde, Jay, Earl; and in-laws, Alma Dryer, and Delores Carter.
She is survived by her daughters, Deb (Tom) Wodarek of Ada, Dr. Kathryn Kampen of Holland, Sue (Chris) Austin of Crystal Falls, Kimberly (Dale) Berends of Holland; son-in-law, Nick (Michelle) Beyer; her very special grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Nicholas & Andrea Beyer (Hazel), Zachary & Skyler Beyer, Mackenzie Beyer & Tom Nissen, Thatcher Berends, Samantha Austin & Ben Jones (William), Catherine Austin, Thomas & Lydia Wodarek, Jeremy & Nicole Wodarek; special canine companion, Buddy; in-laws, Beula & David Maris, Peter Dryer, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will take place on Monday, December 21 at 11:00am at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Holland with Rev. Larry LePoire officiating. A livestream will also take place for those unable to attend.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Ebenezer Reformed Church.
