Born in 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. Ed and his late wife, Lillian, began a long lifetime history on Lakeshore Drive in Fennville, where Lill’s family purchased a summer cottage in the 1940s. Upon retirement in 1988, they set their roots with a permanent home in Saugatuck Township.
Ed attended Farragut High School in Chicago. A lover of music, he played drums in the concert band and led a dance band. He served in the US Naval Reserves during WWII. He married his high school sweetheart Lill and graduated from Illinois Institute of Technology with a Mechanical Engineering degree, launching his successful 40-year career at General Foods Corporation/Kraft. The corporation transferred their family several times between Illinois and Michigan then ultimately to Connecticut. They always came ‘home’ to Michigan.
During their retirement in Saugatuck Township, Ed and Lill were active in the community, assisting in elementary school reading programs, and as advocates to conserve and protect the Lakeshore communities. Their latest of Life’s journeys took them to Freedom Village retirement community in Holland, Michigan. Ed joined a music combo, playing his homemade wash-tub base in the Atrium, for the enjoyment of residents, employees and guests. Ed is survived by a sister in Chicago, two daughters; a grandson in Colorado and numerous nieces and nephews spread from Connecticut to California.
A Life Celebration will be held for family and close friends when CDC recommendations can be observed and weather allows.
