CROCKERY TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 16, 2026) – A 60-year-old Canadian trucker is expected to recover from injuries suffered when his rig lost control on an icy westbound I-96 near Nunica on Friday afternoon.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Shane Ryke, the unnamed trucker, from Cambridge, Ontario, couldn’t prevent his truck from skidding near the Cleveland Street junction shortly after 2 PM. It collided with a westbound transit van before smacking the guardrail, causing the trailer to jackknife and closing down all westbound traffic for over two and a half hours.
The trucker was taken to an undisclosed “area hospital” for treatment of his minor ailments, while the transit van driver, a 32-year-old man from Twin Lake, was not hurt.
The incident remains under investigation.
