GEORGETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 93-year-old resident of an assisted living facility in Jenison was hospitalized after a vehicle crashed into her unit on Sunday morning.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Christie Wendt, a 23-year-old Grand Rapids man was attempting to back his SUV out of a parking space at the Cambridge Manor complex off of Port Sheldon Street just before 10 AM. “The vehicle had a possible mechanical issue, backing through the parking lot in a circle and striking the building,” Wendt said in a department statement. “The vehicle entered a room occupied by (the) resident, (who) was knocked to the ground, receiving injuries from the vehicle entering the room.”
The woman was taken to Metro Health in Wyoming for treatment of non-life threatening injuries; the driver suffered bumps and bruises that didn’t require treatment at the scene.
No names were disclosed. Wendt added that the building received significant structural damage as the incident remains under investigation.
