County Treasurer Cheryl Clark on Friday disclosed the most popular dog breeds and dog names, as submitted during the past year to her office as part of issuing dog licenses. Bella was the name most often submitted in 2025, with the 2024 leader Luna coming in second. Rounding off the top ten were Charlie, Lucy, Daisy, Sadie, Bailey, Ruby, Stella, and Buddy.
As for dog breeds, the Labrador Retriever was the most popular in the county, followed by Mixed, Golden Retriever, Goldendoddle, German Shepherd, Australian Shepherd, Pit Bull, Poodle, Chihuahua, and Shih Tzu.
Dog owners in Michigan have been required to license their canine since 1919, with proof of a rabies vaccination a stipulation of receiving this license. The pup must be registered at four months of age, and licenses are available for one or three years. An online link for more information is here.
