OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 5, 2025) – There will be a new man handling the gavel for the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners.
During its annual organizational meeting on Friday, the governing panel elevated District 10 Republican Josh Brugger of Grand Haven, who was vice chairman last year, to be its chairman, replacing District 7 Republican John Teeples of Jenison. Brugger beat out District 3 Democrat Doug Zylstra and District 11 Republican Allison Miedema of Coopersville. District 9 Republican Phil Kuyers of Spring Lake, a one-time chairman of the board, is the new vice-chairman, with Miedema again missing out.
Other organizational assignments, as well as the meeting calendar for 2026, will be determined by the Ottawa County Board at a special meeting next Tuesday.
The Allegan County Board of Commissioners holds a similar organizational meeting this coming Thursday.
