HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Four Michigan Congressmen, all Republicans, have joined a lawsuit from Texas trying to overturn the Presidential election.
U.S. Reps. Bill Huizenga of Zeeland; John Moolenaar of Midland; Tim Walberg of Tipton, and Jack Bergman of Watersmeet joined the lawsuit Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020.
U.S. Reps. Fred Upton and Paul Mitchell are not part of the lawsuit. Upton is among a few Republicans who have said President Trump lost and the country needs to move on with President-elect Joe Biden.
Huizenga, a former realtor who owns a sand and gravel company in Zeeland, posted a 9-minute video to Facebook explaining why he joined the lawsuit, saying he’d read the legal documents before agreeing to join the amicus action.
He noted that, as a Michigan lawmaker, he is one of those being sued by the Texas court filing.
“We are saying that the potential for these states to have violated the (US) Constitution, Article 1, Section 2, Clause 2 about how elections are run and how we see electors to the electoral college chosen by the states,” he said, “that that ought to have a hearing.”
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, in the legal brief filed responding to the Texas suit, notes the Texas has no legal standing to sue Michigan over election issues, and that the Texas lawsuit not only “fails to establish any of the requisite factors necessary for granting an injunction. It has no likelihood of success on the merits of its claims, and the remaining factors strongly weigh in favor of denying the extraordinary relief Texas seeks – disenfranchising millions of voters.”
Reactions online to Huizenga’s video have ranged from supportive, calling him a hero. to quite critical, with some calling for Huizenga’s resignation or recall.
