LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 15, 2025) – Getting to the lakeshore at a Laketown Township park will continue to be a challenge in 2026.
Last Thursday, that municipality’s Board of Trustees unanimously voted to table a proposed $196,500 contract between the township’s parks commission and Holland-based Lakeshore Concepts to install adjustable aluminum beach stairs at Laketown Township Beach. The EZ Beach Steps could be raised or lowered as the dune shifts at “the bowl,” but the commission didn’t have the money in its budget to pay for the project itself, and had asked the board to approve an allocation from the general fund to cover the costs.
Supervisor Steven Ringelberg spoke for the governing panel in putting a halt on the matter.
The parks department last spring removed wooden stairs at the site, which had been in place for more than 30 years. The tabling will allow Township Manager Stephanie Fox to seek further bids for the project, which would be done during 2027.
The board, in its monthly meeting, did approve applying for a $100,000 state reimbursement grant to cover possible expanded recycling services; approved rezoning of the Wolters House property, which the township acquired three years ago off of 147th Avenue, from single-family to multi-family use; and approved applying for a $9,150 state grant, to be used to purchase wildland firefighting gear for the Graafschap Fire Department.
