HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 3, 2025) – Renovations on the Hope College campus could move forward on Wednesday night.
During its biweekly business meeting, the Holland City Council is expected to concur with the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners and approve a request by the school for $10 million in limited obligation revenue bonds. The money would go towards expanding Phelps Dining Hall, which would include new furnishing, and improvements to the kitchen and seating area. In addition, Hope officials want to put in new boilers at DeVos Fieldhouse, along with other capital upgrades, and to refinance some outstanding debt.
State law allows local municipalities to issue tax-exempt bonds from an Economic Development Corporation to qualifying non-profit entities and businesses, according to Holland City Manager Keith Van Beek.
These bonds are expected to be issued on Friday.
The Holland City Council’s 6 PM business meeting is in Chambers at Holland City Hall (270 S. River Ave.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
