HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 20, 2025) – Two matters of some interest highlighted Wednesday night’s Holland City Council meeting.
One was expanding the downtown Social District to Window on the Waterfront, which would include the just-opened Holland Community Ice Park. The matter brought up a number of residents who spoke for and against the matter before Fourth Ward Council Member Kim Rowan and her colleagues voted 8-1 in favor of the measure.
Fifth Ward Councilman Scott Corbin was the lone no vote. However, Council did agree to limit the expansion to the Ice Park’s plaza area and not on the ice itself, and the action will take effect on December 18th.
In addition, the governing panel rejected, on a 5-4 vote, a proposed removal of a “non-compliant” crosswalk on West 40th Street between Ottawa Avenue and Graafschap Road. While city streets officials say upgrading the mid-block crossing would not be cost-effective, At-Large Councilman Devin Shea pointed out that this matter is much deeper than just one passage.
City staff will be working on presenting a rebuilding plan that should be implemented next spring.
As for housekeeping issues, Corbin was again selected by his colleagues for Mayor Pro Tem, while At-Large Councilman Michael Schultheis is the new Chief Governance Officer.
