HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 31, 2025) – With less than four weeks before Thanksgiving, and with the federal government shutdown affecting those receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, a way to help begins on Saturday.
Every Wednesday and Saturday before the holiday on November 27th, shoppers at the Holland Farmers Market can go into the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place and donate healthy, non-perishable food items that will be distributed by the Community Action House Food Club. Among the most needed items are dried or canned beans, healthy cooking oils, flour and spices, whole wheat and gluten-free pasta, broth, zero sugar juice, and canned fruit in 100% juice.
Not only will these donations go towards putting food on the table for the needy, but Market Manager Barb Kaczmarek says that there is an incentive for those who place those items in the containers.
Shoppers can also donate market bucks that Action House staffers will then use to purchase food items. The collection effort runs from 9 AM to 1 PM on Holland Farmers Market days in November.
