HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 24, 2025) – A semi-annual effort to clear out old and unused medication from medicine cabinets nationwide is set for Saturday.
Although the federal government shutdown remains in effect, the US Drug Enforcement Agency is still going ahead with participating local health organizations and law enforcement agencies for the 29th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The four-hour event, from 10 AM to 2 PM, is an opportunity for people around the country to safely drop off and dispose of expired and unneeded prescription medications, no questions asked, with some of the locations also accepting sharps for proper disposal.
According to the DEA, 310 tons were collected in nearly 46 hundred sites nationwide in April, bringing the overall total to nearly 10 thousand tons since the program began 15 years ago.
Ottawa County Sheriff Eric DeBoer is well aware of the importance of such an initiative.
