PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 6, 2025) – A 20-year-old Dorr man was safely rescued from the waters of Lake Michigan on Saturday afternoon after his kayak capsized.
Crews were dispatched around 3:25 PM to an area about 670 feet from Holland’s south pier, where they encountered the unnamed kayaker, wearing a personal floatation device and clinging to his craft, while those inside of a nearby sailboat was attempting to pull the man to safety in wave swells reaching eight to 10 feet, which made that boat drift towards the pier.
Deploying a personal watercraft with a life sled, Park Township Fire Department personnel were able to throw a rescue line to the kayaker and pulled him safely to their craft. He was treated at the scene for minor injuries and released, and the kayak was eventually retrieved when it floated to the shore.
The incident remains under investigation.
