ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 1, 2025) – Some tweaks to Zeeland’s new downtown parking setup could be made during Tuesday night’s biweekly City Council meeting,
The governing panel will be asked to vote on two amendments to the parking ordinance that mandates a four-hour parking limit on municipal lots in the downtown district. One would abolish such a rule for Saturdays, since many of the first-floor office and service-based businesses are not open on weekend, freeing up spaces for shoppers and visitors. The other would exempt active contractor vehicles and trailers involved in construction and renovation work, with the proviso that such exemptions would involve only essential vehicles and trailers.
In the 6 PM Work-Study Session ahead of the 7 PM meeting, council members will continue the discussion as to allowing Sunday liquor sales by the glass and bottle, which has been put forward by The Gritzmaker tavern so that they can attract patrons to watch games there involving the team with Grit, the Detroit Lions, on Sunday. The governing panel could agree to put the matter before a public hearing before going forward with a possible ordinance amendment.
Both the Work-Study Session and the Business Meeting of the Zeeland City Council will be held in Chambers at Zeeland City Hall (21 S. Elm St.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
