HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 27, 2025) – Holland Department of Public Safety officers and firefighters weren’t about to take any chances when a “suspicious” package was found near Boatwerks Restaurant on Tuesday afternoon.
A restaurant staffer saw a person place such a package in a tree near the eatery off of West 8th Street and Van Raalte Avenue around 12 Noon, and then drive off. Patrons and staffers were told to remain inside as the state police bomb team was summoned, and after removing the package safely, it was determined by investigators that the package was indeed harmless.
Public Safety Captain of Administrative Services Bob Buursma said that, “It appears the package may have been placed as part of a Geo-Cache scavenger hunt, or other similar purpose.” While the incident remains under investigation, charges are not expected to be filed in the matter.
