HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 8, 2025) – An item that was pulled from the consent agenda during Wednesday’s Holland City Council business meeting has brought up the matter of how the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place is being operated.
At issue was the emergency purchase of four replacement compressors, located on two main units in the building, that blew out in June and were repaired at a cost of $24,000. By city charter, any such expenditure of over $20,000 needs council approval, and Fifth Ward Councilman Scott Corbin wanted the matter put forward in a public meeting, not just bundled together with other routine issues.
This matter was approved by Council unanimously.
It’s been over a year since Sports Facilities Management took over operational responsibilities of the Civic Center, and while City Manager Keith Van Beek and other civic leaders have been pleased with how things have gone thus far, they are still keeping a close eye on how things are going there.
Sports Facilities, along with subcontractor Creative Dining Services, are in a five-year deal with the City of Holland to handle operations at the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place.

Isn’t there a warranty on any of that equipment?
