HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jul. 21, 2025) – The second rabid bat of the season along the Lakeshore has been found.
On Friday, the Ottawa County Department of Public Health was notified by the state lab that a bat found at an undisclosed location in the county tested positive for rabies. It’s the first such case in its jurisdiction for 2025, and comes after one was reported to the state Department of Health and Human Services by the Allegan County Health Department, although the date and exact location where that animal was spotted was also not disclosed.
The Ottawa County Health Department used this announcement more for informational purposes about rabies prevention, and what to do if a bat is encountered. Last year, three rabid animals were reported in the county, and a total of 17 rabid bats have been spotted in Michigan thus far in 2025.
