Operation Dry Water Awareness Heightened During Independence Day Holiday

ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jul. 3. 2025) – There will be extra police patrols on roadways and waterways this Independence Day holiday weekend.

The Operation Dry Water initiative from the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators aims to increase awareness of, and to cut down on, alcohol and drug related incidents and fatalities involving vessels. While such efforts are year-round, marine unit leaders such as Sergeant Todd Wagner of the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office point to this holiday in spotlighting this initiative.

Sheriff’s offices all along the Lakeshore are participating in Operation Dry Water, along with the US Coast Guard station in Grand Haven.
