OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jun. 24, 2025) – Where does the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners go from here in the search for a new operational leader for county government?
The 11-person governing panel meets on Tuesday morning, and casting a shadow over the 9 AM proceedings at the county administration building (12220 Fillmore St.) is a single item, simply entitled on the agenda as, “Administrator Search Next Steps.” There are no supporting documents to amply that item further.
Since Michael Tremblay appeared before the board in a special meeting 12 days ago, the panel have severed ties with Double Haul Solutions, the Brighton-based firm retained to help in the search for a new administrator. Tremblay, a soon-to-be-retired US Army Captain, was the only finalist to be interviewed, after four others voluntarily dropped out, and whether or not the board will offer him a contract remains to be seen.
Board Chairman John Teeples of Jenison may have seen two searches for a permanent operational leader, one under his tenure, turn out unsuccessfully.
Ottawa County hasn’t filled the position on a full-time basis since John Gibbs was relieved of his duties on February 29th of last year. Retired Sheriff Gary Rosema is handling the position on an interim basis.
