POLKTON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jun. 23, 2025) – A 35-year-old Muskegon woman was injured after a two-vehicle crash near Coopersville that is being blamed, somewhat, on buckling pavement from a weekend heat wave.
No name was given by Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Chad Coulson following the incident that occurred around 8 PM on Sunday evening. Deputies and state police troopers were sent to westbound I-96 near the 16 mile marker, in the vicinity of the 68th Avenue exit, on a report that the pavement there had buckled. A Polkton Township Fire Department truck, which was assisting in closing down one lane while repairs to the roadway were being made, was struck by the woman’s vehicle, causing minor injuries to the motorist.
Authorities were compelled to shut down the roadway for a short time to clear up the crash scene and complete the emergency highway repairs. The incident remains under investigation.
