SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 29, 2025) – What was supposed to be an airport to service the Saugatuck area has a new life, beginning on Thursday.
An 11 AM ribbon-cutting ceremony is slated to formally open the Saugatuck Wilds Nature Preserve off of 63rd Street near 134th Avenue. Saugatuck City Manager Ryan Cummins said that the site was dormant for many years.
Saugatuck’s leaders partnered with Holland-based Outdoor Discovery Center on this $160,000 project.
The ODC is also working on combating invasive species and restoring the natural habitat in the area, while a conservation easement has been established to protect the eastern portion of the property.
