ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 5, 2025) – The municipal budget for the city of Zeeland in Fiscal 2026 will be decided on Monday night.
A public hearing is slated ahead of a vote by the Zeeland City Council on a $71.2 million spending plan for the year that begins on July 1st. It takes into account planned revenues of $68.4 million, but as Mayor Kevin Klynstra remarked, what is targeted spending more often becomes dollars that are not spent.
The budget is based on a tax rate of over 11.1 mills which, outside of the COVID years, has remained constant since 2010. This is due to a nearly 4.5 percent increase in taxable property values. Rates and fees for city services will also be established during this 7 PM meeting, which is preceded by a 5:45 PM work study session, both in chambers at Zeeland City Hall (21 S. Elm St.).
