GEORGETOWN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 26, 2025) โ A total of four drivers were injured in two separate accidents on Wednesday in this Ottawa County community.
No names were disclosed by Ottawa County Sheriffโs Sergeant Michael Tamminga after either incident.
The first occurred around 7:25 AM at the intersection of 48th Avenue and Van Buren Street. According to witnesses, a southbound sedan, driven by a 25-year-old Grand Haven man, rear-ended another sedan that had stopped ahead of him, awaiting northbound traffic to clear in order to make a left turn. Upon impact, the stopped vehicle, driven by a 25-year-old Hudsonville woman, was pushed across the center line and was hit by a northbound pickup truck, driven by a 17-year-old Hudsonville man. The initial sedan, after hitting the stopped sedan, careened into another northbound pickup, driven by a 21-year-old Byron Center man.
After being looked at by deputies and LIFE EMS paramedics at the scene, three of the four motorists involved went on their own to medical facilities for treatment. Which drivers were hurt, and the extent of their injuries, were not disclosed. As a result of the pileup, 48th Avenue, a major north-south thoroughfare through the center of Ottawa County, was blocked off north of Chicago Drive (M-121) for a period of time to clean up the debris.
The second crash came around 3:45 PM on Fillmore Street near Clay Avenue, when an eastbound pickup truck crossed over the center line and smashed into a westbound sedan. The 22-year-old Sparta woman driving the sedan had to taken to an unnamed hospital by LIFE EMS for treatment of undisclosed injuries. The pickup driver, a 22-year-old Muskegon man, was not hurt, but Tamminga said that alcohol and/or drugs is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
Both incidents remain under investigation.
