
Five from Hope College have been chosen as MIAA Athletes of the Week: baseball’s Mason Belmore; men’s track’s Lucas Guidone, men’s field’s Aidan Kyle, women’s track’s Catherine Leahy and women’s field Bridget Crombie.
Belmore (Battle Creek, Michigan / Lakeview HS) is the MIAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career.
The senior right-hander helped the Flying Dutchmen defeat No. 20-ranked Rhodes College (Tennessee), 5-4, by allowing three runs (two earned) over seven innings of work. A communication major, Belmore struck out five and walked two.
Guidone (Chicago, Illinois / Taft) is the MIAA Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and the second time in his career.
The biochemistry and molecular biology major finished runner-up in a field of 24 800-meter runners at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge in South Carolina last weekend. Guidone clocked a time of 1 minute, 54.74 seconds, ranking sixth in NCAA Division III.
Leahy (Elk Rapids, Michigan / Elk Rapids) is the MIAA Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and the second time in her career.
The exercise science major excelled at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge last weekend, clocking the second-fastest time in the 400-meter dash at 56.59 seconds and the seventh-fastest 200 at 25.60. Leahy also ran on the 4×100 (:49.32) and 4×400 relays (4:09.82), ranking 12th and 16th in the nation, respectively.
Kyle (Weston, Connecticut / Weston) is the MIAA Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and the second time in his career.
The communication major recorded a javelin throw of 55.31 meters (178 feet, 2 inches), ranking 12th-longest in Division III this season.
Crombie (Lansing, Michigan / Home School) is the MIAA Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for the first time.
In the high jump, Crombie cleared 1.50 meters (4-11) at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge, ranking her 24th in the nation.
