HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 14, 2025) – A tradition more than two decades strong resumes on Saturday.
It’s the 20th St. Patrick’s Day Parade through Downtown Holland, beginning at 12 Noon outside of the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place and heading east on 8th Street to College Avenue. Al McGeehan came up with the idea, and Cathy Blackburn has been involved in making it a reality since.
While LAUP’s Fiesta has a longer tradition, this parade has helped, in part, spur the development of the Holland Waterfront Celtic Festival and Highland Games, as well as the International Festival of Holland, that broadens the perception of Holland as just a Dutch bastion in America.
While parade participants are allowed to toss candy out to spectators, officials caution youngsters to stay close to the curb in order to avoid being hit by the vehicles involved in the promenade.
