LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 13, 2025) – The municipal budget season is underway along the Lakeshore.
On Wednesday, the Laketown Township Board of Trustees approved a $1.9 million spending plan for Fiscal 2026, which begins on April 1st. This includes an expected fund balance of over $1.4 million dollars, which officials say is needed later in the year to meet financial obligations. It also is a spending reduction of slightly more than $101,000, due in part to the retirement this past January of long-time manager Al Meshkin.
The budget was put together by supervisor Steven Ringelberg, who assumed the interim manager duties when Meshkin stepped down. Now that this task is complete, the township will begin a search for a new manager in earnest.
Next month, the Holland and Zeeland city councils will review proposed spending plans for FY 2026 ahead of slated final votes in May.
