Hope College sprinter Sara Schermerhorn has repeated as the MIAA Most Valuable Women’s Indoor Track Athlete for 2025.
The junior from Traverse City, Michigan (Traverse City West) co-headlines All-MIAA Teams that includes Albion College thrower Tess Anthony, the Most Valuable Women’s Field Athlete.
Eight of Schermehorn’s teammates also earned All-MIAA accolades: seniors Greta Robrahn and Maddy Struck; juniors Frances Cozzens, Molly Durow and Catherine Leahy; sophomore Amanda Markham; and freshmen Sofia Fisher and Lily Sackrider.
All-MIAA honors are given to event champions and runners-up. This is the first season that second-place finishers at the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships earned all-league recognition.
Schermerhorn matches Mitchel Achien’g ’20 in earning the honor in back-to-back seasons. Achien’g was the Most Valuable Field Athlete in 2019 and 2020.
An exercise science major, Schermerhorn is the second Hope runner to win the award twice. Ana Tucker ‘23 won it in 2021 and 2023.
Schermerhorn claimed four gold medals at Saturday’s MIAA Championships at Trine University, winning the 60-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter run and 4×400 relay.
The junior became the first MIAA women’s indoor runner to win the 60, 200 and 400 runs at the league championships. Schermerhorn set meet records in the 200 at 24.82 seconds and the 400 at 58.28 seconds.
Schermerhorn anchored Hope’s first-place 4×400 relay that also featured Leahy (Elk Rapids, Michigan / Elk Rapids), Cozzens (Lyman, New Hampshire / Saint Johnsbury Academy) and Fisher (Lombard, Illinois / Montini Catholic).
Schermerhorn has earned All-MIAA recognition in each of her first three indoor seasons.
This is the second consecutive All-MIAA indoor honor for Leahy and Cozzens and the first for Fisher.
Durow (Glenview, Illinois / Glenbrook South) ran away with the gold medal in the 800.
The victorious women’s distance medley relay featured Durow, Markham (Hoffman Estates,
Illinois / William Fremd), Sackrider (St. Johns, Michigan / St. Johns) and Struck (Hainesville, Illinois / Grayslake Central).
These are the first All-MIAA accolades for Durow, Markham, Sackrider and Struck.
Leahy and Robrahn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) were runners-up in the 400 and shot put, respectively.
This is the second time Robrahn made the All-MIAA Indoor Track and Field Team.
